What Is Spider and Scorpion Control?

Spider and scorpion control is targeted treatment to eliminate venomous and nuisance arachnids from your home and property. In Oklahoma, this means protecting your family from brown recluse spiders, black widow spiders, and striped bark scorpions, the three most medically significant arachnids in the OKC metro. It also covers wolf spiders, cellar spiders, and other common species that invade Oklahoma homes throughout the year.

Oklahoma’s climate is ideal for spiders and scorpions. Hot summers drive them indoors seeking shelter. Mild winters allow populations to survive year after year. The red clay soil, aging home foundations, and abundant insect prey across the OKC metro create conditions that support large arachnid populations in every neighborhood. Alpha Pest Solutions uses targeted treatment protocols designed to reduce spider and scorpion populations inside your home and create a protective barrier around the exterior.

Signs You Need Spider and Scorpion Control

  • Webs in corners, closets, garages, attics, and storage areas, especially irregular cobwebs (brown recluse) or strong geometric webs in dark areas (black widow)
  • Spiders seen regularly inside the home, particularly in bedrooms, bathrooms, and closets
  • A brown recluse spider positively identified inside your home, which indicates an established population since they are rarely solitary
  • A scorpion found inside your home, especially in bathrooms, closets, or shoes
  • Bites or skin reactions that you suspect may be spider-related
  • Heavy insect activity around your home, which attracts spiders as predators
  • Cluttered storage areas, cardboard boxes, or undisturbed spaces where spiders can harbor
  • Gaps around doors, windows, pipes, and utility penetrations where arachnids enter
  • Wood piles, rock landscaping, or debris near your foundation that provide scorpion habitat

Our Process

  1. Free inspection. We thoroughly inspect interior and exterior areas where spiders and scorpions harbor, including attics, crawlspaces, garages, closets, baseboards, window wells, and the foundation perimeter. For scorpions, we can conduct a UV blacklight inspection at night, when scorpions fluoresce bright green under ultraviolet light.
  2. Species identification. We identify exactly which species are present. Brown recluse infestations require different treatment placement than wolf spider or cellar spider issues. Scorpion infestations require attention to entry points and exterior harborage that spider treatments alone would miss.
  3. Interior treatment. We apply residual products to baseboards, closets, under beds, in storage areas, attic spaces, and other dark undisturbed areas where spiders and scorpions hide. We treat cracks and crevices where these pests travel.
  4. Exterior barrier treatment. We apply a continuous residual barrier around your foundation, under eaves, around windows and doors, and along fence lines. We treat common entry points including utility penetrations, weep holes, and garage door seals.
  5. Web removal. We knock down accessible webs on the exterior of your home. This removes egg sacs and forces spiders to cross treated surfaces when they rebuild.
  6. Harborage reduction guidance. We identify conducive conditions around your property, such as firewood stacked against the house, rock landscaping touching the foundation, dense vegetation, or ground cover that provides scorpion habitat, and recommend specific corrections.
  7. Follow-up. We return to verify results and retreat as needed. For recurring plans, we maintain the barrier on your chosen schedule.

Treatment Options and Plans

One-time spider and scorpion treatment. Best for a specific infestation or seasonal invasion. Includes full inspection, interior and exterior treatment, web removal, and one follow-up visit.

Quarterly general pest plan. Our most popular option. Covers spiders and scorpions along with ants, roaches, and 20+ other pests. We treat four times per year to maintain continuous barrier protection. This plan is particularly effective for spider and scorpion control because maintaining an unbroken exterior barrier is the best long-term defense.

Bimonthly plan. Six treatments per year for homes with persistent spider or scorpion pressure. Recommended for properties in western OKC metro (Yukon, Mustang, Piedmont) where scorpion pressure is highest, and for older homes with heavy brown recluse populations.

Scorpion-specific treatment. Targeted service for properties with active scorpion issues. Includes UV blacklight inspection, interior treatment, exterior barrier, and harborage identification. Available as one-time or recurring service.

What to Expect After Treatment

Spiders and scorpions do not respond to treatment as quickly as ants or roaches because they are not social insects. There is no colony to eliminate. Treatment works by creating residual barriers that kill spiders and scorpions as they cross treated surfaces.

You may see increased spider or scorpion activity for the first 1 to 2 weeks as these pests move through treated areas. This is normal and indicates the treatment is working. Dead or dying spiders and scorpions found on their backs is a positive sign.

Full results typically appear within 2 to 4 weeks. Brown recluse populations may take longer to fully reduce because they can survive for months without food and tend to stay hidden in deep harborage. Consistency is key. Quarterly treatments compound over time, and most customers see dramatic reductions after 2 to 3 treatment cycles.

Is Spider and Scorpion Control Safe for Family and Pets?

Yes. Our treatments use targeted application methods that minimize exposure. Interior products are applied to cracks, crevices, baseboards, and undisturbed areas where your family and pets have minimal contact. Exterior treatments are applied to the foundation and perimeter, not to play areas or garden beds.

All products are dry within 30 to 60 minutes of application. Once dry, treated surfaces pose no risk to children or pets walking on them. We use products specifically formulated for residential use that meet all EPA safety standards.

If you have specific concerns about reptile or fish pets (which can be more sensitive to certain products), let us know and we will adjust our treatment plan accordingly.

Why Choose Alpha Pest Solutions?

Medically significant species expertise. Brown recluse, black widow, and striped bark scorpion are the three arachnids in Oklahoma that pose genuine health risks. We know where these species hide, how they behave, and which treatment methods actually work. Generic “bug spray” does not solve a brown recluse infestation. Targeted, species-specific treatment does.

Evidence-based protocol. We identify the pest before we treat. If you think you have brown recluse but actually have cellar spiders, we tell you honestly and adjust the plan. No unnecessary treatments, no scare tactics.

UV blacklight scorpion inspections. Scorpions fluoresce bright green under ultraviolet light. We offer nighttime UV inspections that reveal exactly where scorpions are entering and harboring around your home. This precision allows us to target treatment where it matters most.

Oklahoma knowledge. We know that Yukon, Mustang, and western OKC have the highest scorpion pressure in the metro. We know that brown recluse are found in virtually every older home in central Oklahoma. We know that wolf spiders are commonly mistaken for brown recluse, and we can tell the difference at a glance.

Small town relational feel. Big company solutions. You deal with a local team that knows your property and answers your calls. Not a national call center.

Spider and Scorpion Control Throughout the OKC Metro

Oklahoma City. Brown recluse spiders are found in older homes across the city, with heavy populations in Heritage Hills, Mesta Park, Paseo, and Capitol Hill where aging construction provides abundant harborage. Wolf spiders are common everywhere. Black widows are frequently found in garages, sheds, and meter boxes throughout south and southwest OKC.

Edmond. Established neighborhoods with mature trees and landscaping support healthy spider populations. Brown recluse are common in older homes near downtown Edmond. Wolf spiders are frequently found in homes adjacent to Arcadia Lake and undeveloped areas.

Norman. Heavy spider pressure across all neighborhoods. Brown recluse thrive in older homes near OU campus and throughout the historic districts. Crawlspace homes are particularly vulnerable.

Yukon and Mustang. These western metro cities have the highest striped bark scorpion pressure in the OKC area. Scorpions are active from April through October, with peak activity in May through July. Homes near undeveloped land or rocky terrain see the highest scorpion counts.

Moore and Midwest City. General spider pressure with brown recluse in older construction. Black widows in outbuildings and storage areas.

Nichols Hills and The Village. Mature landscaping and large lots support spider populations. Brown recluse in older homes. Wolf spiders common due to irrigated landscapes.

We also serve Bethany, Del City, Choctaw, Piedmont, Warr Acres, Blanchard, Newcastle, and Purcell.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I have brown recluse spiders?

Brown recluse are light to medium brown, about the size of a quarter with legs extended, and have a distinctive dark violin-shaped marking on their back (cephalothorax). They have six eyes arranged in three pairs, unlike most spiders which have eight. They build irregular, messy webs in undisturbed areas like closets, storage boxes, behind furniture, and in attics. If you see one brown recluse, there are almost certainly more. They rarely live alone. Call us for a free inspection and positive identification.

Are brown recluse bites dangerous?

Brown recluse bites can cause necrotic skin lesions that destroy tissue around the bite site. Most bites cause mild to moderate reactions that heal on their own, but a small percentage develop into serious wounds requiring medical treatment. The severity depends on the amount of venom injected and individual reaction. If you suspect a brown recluse bite, see a doctor promptly and try to capture or photograph the spider for identification. Many suspected brown recluse bites are actually caused by other conditions.

Can scorpions get inside my house?

Yes. Striped bark scorpions are excellent climbers and can enter through gaps as narrow as a credit card width. Common entry points include gaps under doors, cracks in foundations, weep holes in brick, gaps around utility penetrations, and openings around windows. They are attracted to moisture and often found in bathrooms, laundry rooms, and kitchens. They can also enter through attic spaces and travel down interior walls.

How often should I treat for spiders and scorpions?

Quarterly treatment provides the best ongoing protection for most OKC metro homes. Each treatment refreshes the residual barrier that kills spiders and scorpions on contact. For homes with heavy scorpion pressure (especially in Yukon, Mustang, and western OKC), bimonthly treatment during the active season (April through October) delivers the best results.

Do spider treatments kill all spiders in my home?

No treatment eliminates every single spider immediately. Residual treatments work over time as spiders cross treated surfaces. You will see a significant reduction in spider activity within 2 to 4 weeks of treatment. Quarterly service compounds this effect. After 2 to 3 treatment cycles, most customers report dramatic reductions in spider sightings. Some outdoor species like garden spiders and orb weavers may still appear on exterior structures since they do not typically cross treated foundation areas.

What should I do if I find a scorpion in my house?

Stay calm. Striped bark scorpions in Oklahoma are not dangerously venomous. Their sting is painful (similar to a wasp sting) but not life-threatening for most adults. Children, elderly individuals, and those with allergies should seek medical attention after a sting. Capture the scorpion under a glass if you can do so safely, then call us. Finding one scorpion inside usually means more are present.

Are wolf spiders dangerous?

Wolf spiders are large and intimidating but are not medically significant. They can bite if handled or trapped, but their venom is mild and comparable to a bee sting. Wolf spiders are ground hunters that do not build webs. They are commonly confused with brown recluse spiders, but wolf spiders are larger, hairier, and have a distinctly different eye arrangement (two large forward-facing eyes). If you are unsure, we can identify the species during a free inspection.

Can I use glue traps to monitor for spiders?

Yes. Flat glue boards (sticky traps) placed along baseboards, in closets, and in storage areas are an excellent monitoring tool for brown recluse and other spiders. They are not a solution by themselves, but they help us and you gauge the severity of the population and track whether treatments are reducing numbers. Place them in corners, along walls, and behind furniture in rooms where spiders are most frequently seen.

Do essential oils or natural repellents work against spiders?

There is no scientific evidence that essential oils (peppermint, tea tree, etc.) provide reliable or lasting spider control. Some may have a very mild, temporary repellent effect, but they do not kill spiders, do not create a residual barrier, and do not address the underlying population. Professional residual treatments applied to harborage areas and entry points are the proven effective approach.

Why do I see more spiders in fall?

Fall spider activity increases for two reasons. First, spiders that hatched in spring are now fully grown adults, so they are larger and more visible. Second, cooling temperatures drive prey insects (and the spiders following them) closer to structures and eventually indoors. This fall surge is normal in Oklahoma and is exactly why we recommend having your quarterly treatment scheduled for early fall to coincide with peak pressure.
